Denmark Building Design is committed to listening to our client's requirements, creating designs that are sensitive to their site, brief and budget, and most importantly delight and compliment their lifestyle. Minimising the impact on the environment, energy and water efficiency, accessibility and cost effectiveness, and comfort all year round, are all important design objectives.

Building a new home, renovating, or extending with new additions, are all large investments. Our service is creative, affordable and professional, it will help to make the building process less stressful, and provide at the end a product that blends with the site, is comfortable, and enhances your lifestyle.

Denmark Building Design was founded by Hugh Wilson in 1990 when he moved to Denmark after eleven years in Margaret River. He graduated in Architecture in Auckland, New Zealand, did postgraduate studies in London, and traveled the world with his notebook for many years, working in Scandinavia, the United Kingdom and the USA. Now he is the director of this award winning, passive solar design company, designing beautiful homes along the south coast, including Albany, Mount Barker, Denmark and Walpole.

  Hugh Wilson says...

All my designs are sensitive to:

  • the characteristics of the site such as slope, exposure to the south-west weather, existing trees, neighbours, access, services availability, winds and winter sun
  • the client's brief including space requirements and aesthetic preferences
  • the client's budget and budget priorities
  • the client's building timetable and future expansion strategies
  • passive solar principles, energy and water efficiency, sustainability and accessibility.
My aim is to design buildings, whether they are residential or commercial, that compliment their environment, that function efficiently, that are timeless in aesthetic, that include nature where possible, and most importantly give the people who use them an intimate, protective, and inspiring experience.

Over the years I have had experience designing a wide range of buildings. These include restaurants, chalets, holiday apartments, retail developments, homes for low-income families, homes for millionaires, recreation centres, Shire Administration offices, various additions, strawbale, mud-brick, reverse brick veneer, pole-frame, rammed earth, loft homes and farm houses.

I look forward to meeting you and helping you to build your dreams here in this temperate climate and magnificent landscape. A building you will be proud of!
